Advanced CAD - Project 2 (GRAP 2029) M185 Logitech Mouse

For this project we were introduced to surface modeling for the first time. It seemed simple, create a master model and then export the different parts to work on them individually. This was by far the hardest and most challenging project I have worked on thus far. For the most part it was just small errors that with a bit of time could be fixed but when I was creating the middle housing I ran into a strange issue that cost me hours of work all resulting in having to restart the part from scratch. In the end I had to make compromises to get it to look as close to the real part without using the proper techniques.

This is what my surface did when I tried to extrude up to it or cut through it, I have no idea why this happened and I spent way to long trying to make it work.

In the end I had to just use the surface to extrude up to but not have them merge, this left me with a whole bunch of solid bodies but it was the best compromise I could come up with, I missed out on a lot of detailing on this part becasue of the amount of time I spent trying to fix it and just wanting to move on.

Earlier in the project I noticed my mouse was unsymmetrical so I sliced it in half, mirrored it and even though it was one single part when I wanted to offset it to create thickness it would project as two surfaces for some reason.

In the end I got it all done and learnt a whole bunch of new tricks that have been coming in handy on the other projects that I've been working on.

If I were to do this again I think the main issues I faced can be eliminated by restricting my surfaces with more guide lines to that they don't have room to warp or do their own thing, this will ensure I get crisp surfaces that will make the rest of the process so much easier.
